Baby Nursery Decoration Basics

Baby Nursery Decoration should be fun. This experience of decorating your newborn child's room should incorporate both functionality, harmony and safety. Having said that, functionality is the key to enjoying and spending considerable time in your nursery. An ill-planned nursery can cause frustration, fatigue and worse still possible injury to your child.

Remember the golden rule of baby nursery decoration, functionality first. Once you nursery is functional then you can add your decorations and personal touches.

Baby Nursery Decoration Floor Plan

First step in baby room design is to see what you have to work with. Go ahead with a tape measure and make out the door, windows, inbuilt cupboards and any other fixed room features on a piece of grid paper. Make all of these measurements to scale so that you have a room template later with which to work with.

Once you have a master template, go away and make copies so that all your rough drafts and sketches are NOT on the master. This way you will always have a master copy to go back to if you need to start again.

Next, add in your essential furniture such as crib, rocking chair, chest of drawers and any other essential furniture. Place them on your drawing in positions that would be most functional first, then decorative.

Baby Nursery Decoration Furniture & Accessories

After you have finished adding in your essentials, go ahead and add the rest such as lamps, baby crib mobiles, additional lighting, nursery rugs and so on. You will soon get a feel for how much space you will be taking up in the room from your scale drawing.

Lighting and floor covering are two of the most overlooked aspects in nursery design.

Lighting is important for both heat, cold and sleeping environment. This includes crib position in relation to windows but also artificial light.

The floor coverings will impact on sound absorption in the room not to mention needs consideration when it comes to allergens. Carpets and nursery rugs feel warm and comfortable but their cleaning aspects need to be considered due to harboring dust mites and other allergens.

With this drawing in hand you can now take it to next level and create a 3D design plan. Baby Nursery Decoration should be a fun and enjoyable experience for all.
